The Phytofueled Approach
At Phytofueled Nutrition, I take a unique approach to sports nutrition counseling and run coaching for beginner runners. My program is rooted in a plant-forward, anti-diet, and health at every size philosophy, that emphasizes the importance of adding nutrients into your diet for optimal performance and overall wellness, rather than removing foods.
When it comes to nutrition counseling, I work closely with clients to develop personalized plans that not only meet their specific needs, but also align with their athletic goals. As a dietitian, I am well-versed in the benefits of a plant-forward diet, which emphasizes whole foods such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and legumes. This approach does not require you to be vegetarian or vegan, but encourages you to add more plant foods to your diet. These nutrient-dense foods provide essential vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, including phytonutrients, which are compounds found in plants that have been shown to enhance athletic performance, aid in recovery, and support overall health.
In addition to nutrition counseling, my run coaching program takes a holistic approach to training. I understand that beginner runners require guidance not only in terms of proper running technique but also in building endurance, preventing injuries, and optimizing recovery. I work closely with clients to design individualized training plans that gradually increase mileage while incorporating rest days and cross-training activities for optimal performance and injury prevention. I currently hold an RRCA Level I running certification, have been a distance runner for over 10 years, and have completed over 15 half marathons and 3 marathons.
My combined nutrition and running counseling program also educates beginner runners about the importance of balanced macronutrient intake. I focus on optimizing carbohydrates for energy, adequate protein for muscle repair and synthesis, and healthy fats for sustained energy and hormone regulation. Through this approach, I will empower you to make informed food choices that fuel your training and boost your performance naturally. As a distance athlete and dietitian, I understand the unique challenges endurance training can pose to nutrition.
